Firefighter injured in vacant apartment fire

A firefighter was injured early Monday morning while battling a vacant apartment house blaze on the 1200 block of Arrott Street.

Executive Chief Clifford Gilliam said flames were seen on the roof of the three-story building when firefighters arrived at about 1 a.m. Monday. Several fire companies fought the fire for more than two hours before it was put under control, the captain said. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, he said.

Part of the building collapsed, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There is a lien on the building for more than $4,000 in unpaid taxes. ••
